Difference between a community organizer and a governor?

Saw this on Debbie's blog and traced it back to Terry Carroll:

The difference between a community organizer and a governor? Jesus was a community organizer and Pontius Pilate was a governor.

There you have it! Can I get it on a t-shirt?

That took way too much thinking on my part. Finally figured it out though.

Jesus wasn't a community organizer.

So Palin is Pilate and THE ONE(Obama) is Jesus. Right?

The notion that Jesus Christ was a Community Organizer is flat out wrong. Jesus Christ was the Son of God and the Redeemer of mankind. Jesus Christ died, but more importantly lived so that mankind could be free of the shackles of sin. He was maybe as much as a community organizer as Adolph Hitler was a community organizer. However, Christ’s message is the ANTI-thesis of “community organizing.”

Also, this talk that “Pontius Pilate was a governor” as a sly jab at Sarah Palin, who is a governor as well is also absurd. In fact Obama has more in common with Pilate because both are essentially famous for voting “present.”

I think it is fair to say, that Barack Obama is no Jesus..no, not even close.

*Not trying to start a fight here or anything. I just find that comment quite interesting because it completely unbiblical.

Hope you have a nice day :)

First, you should know that the phrase "Jesus was a community organizer" has been around a long time. Long before Sarah Palin choose to try and belittle that work in her speech at the RNC.

Second, the author of that quote says he IN NO WAY wants to compare Obama to Jesus. It's simply meant to point out that being a COMMUNITY ORGANIZER is honorable work and nothing to be sneered at. Period.

Thanks for the comment :)

I completely agree that being a community organizer is honorable work and nothing to be sneered at.

I have honestly never ever heard that quote in my life. "Jesus being a community organizer"- he really wasn't. The four gospels do not attest to that being true by any means.

He was a teacher, savior, rabbi etc. but none of his works had to do with community organizing.

What's even more interesting to me though is that even Barack Obama has never really been able to explain what a community organizer does. Well now we know. A community organizer saves men's souls, delivering them to eternal life.

I don't know. Obama seems like a really nice and sincere man and there is a lot to like about him. However, when I look at his history I don't see much accomplished. He speaks about such "radical change" but I have a very hard time trusting that someone who has voted "present" in senate 90% of the time will really enforce change in our country.

"Actions speak louder than words".

*I'm really not like being mean or contemptable. I find all of this to be very intriguing and I really like to talk with people whose opinions are opposite of mine. nothing personal at all...I promise!!! :)

I guess what you think a community organizer is might be different than what other people think it is -- maybe that's where the miscommunication is coming from. If a community organizer is a person trying to make life better for those in the community, then by all means, that's what Jesus was. Did he try and organize people? What is organizing? He certainly wanted people to follow him. Isn't that what his church is? Just because the Bible doesn't spell out the phrase doesn't mean it's not so.

I've attached a picture of a t-shirt showing the saying -- it really has been around a LONG time! Terry Carroll just attached the governor part to it.

And nowhere in that quote does it say "Jesus did this work, so did Obama, therefore they are the same person or the same kind of person." That is a ridiculous jump to make and the kind of logic that makes me shake my head. I am a teacher, the person in the classroom next door to me is a teacher -- we aren't the same person or have the same belief system.

I'll stay out of this little debate. I think you know where I stand. lol

The saying I want on my t-shirt is:

I'm voting for THAT ONE.
